Never pass up old books

I was inspired by a fellow crafter to make wreath from an old book. When you see old books don't pass them by( I always did ). The first one I made is from James Audubon's "Birds of America", the book was so brittle. It takes about two hundred pages. If you decide to make this project I recommend putting on a very long CD or mini series or stretching making the cones over a few days. If you want further instructions contact me. I'm working on another couple from an old hymnal.

November 9, Pom poms are awesome

Today's thoughts are not about thrifting but with my recent craze for childhood craft supplies. Their cheap, easy to work with and very satisfying. If I could think of something very stylish to with a popcicle stick I'll let you know. This idea is not original, but give pompoms a try, The craft I'm making are geared to children, but poms are not what they use to be. Check them out. I'm donating this big wreath to my daughter's Autism class. It's colorful, tactile, and just awesome!

Eames chair,

Many of my friends know about this chair, but I never pass "garbage" the same way. I always look. My friend Rachel and I were biking a few months back and we both caught a sight of a chair on the curb. Rachel being kind and gracious said you get first dibs. We stopped and could tell it was a one time a wooden chair, but burgundy fabric was stapled from top to bottom. I took it home and with cootie protection I started to rip off the fabric, my heart raced as I recognized it being an "Eames" mid-century chair. On the bottom it had a name and it was an american(ish) name I googled it and sure enough this furniture maker was from Sweden. many weeks later I have this in my entryway.

November 5

I have not blogged in a few days. I am morning the loss of my sad Christmas angel. I woke up two days ago and the cats tore her apart, head and limbs crushed. What away to go! She had lived several decades with her blue shadow and bat wings and I let her die from this vicious attack.

Nov 1 2011

This is my second post, I believe everything and everyone can have a second chance. I found this sad Christmas angel for .47 cents. Her blue eyeshadow, black mark on her face and bad hairstyle just screamed, "take me home and give me a makeover!" This is her before picture, she will be a banging chick when I'm done, maybe not an angel, but your blue eye shadow told me, she has style just waiting to get out.

My first day of blogging

Dear World,
I see so much possibilities in everyday things around me. I'm amazed at what people discard and what I see as possibilities. I thrift, garbage pick, yard sale and look around. Last week in Palm Harbor at "Main Street " thrift store standing in line at 1/2 price day I had my treasure, an old sled. People were looking at me as if I was holding some antique torture device. I thought the sled was magical and put in my trunk. I was filled with wonder who was this Florida transport and what fun times they had long ago.
